As partner from the start, VIDELIO-Cap’Ciné has played its part in the growth of Atlantis Television, which is now one of the biggest postproduction companies in the world.
Moored on the Quai du Point du Jour along the banks of the river Seine in Boulogne-Billancourt, the flagship company has no fewer than 400 editing rooms across seven floors.
In June 2016, Atlantis asked VIDELIO-Cap’Ciné to carry out an audit with the aim of consolidating the building’s network infrastructure. It was a major challenge with significant volumes involved: 7 floors, 15 Avid shared storage servers for 40 chassis, 35 switches and 400 clients, in addition to which are 3 remote sites each with their own Avid storage and Avid Media Composer clients.
Our objective was to enable any editing station to access any storage server without having to change cabling or configuration.
Conversely, it was also necessary to partition off some servers for reasons of confidentiality.
Our objective was to enable any editing station to access any storage server without having to change cabling or configuration. Conversely, it was also necessary to partition off some servers for reasons of confidentiality.
With our previous experience, we implemented a solution that combined performance and security while respecting the budget allocated.
A network core consisting of a stack of 3 switches with 48 10GigE ports and 6 40GigE ports each, on which the 40 chassis and 35 departmental switches spread across the building and external sites are connected.
The other challenge was deployment, which was done without stopping production and with a gradual ramp-up from September to December.
This configuration also looks to the future and is ready to receive the new Avid Software Defined Storage servers, particularly the Avid NEXIS | E5, high-density server, fitted with 40GigE ports already present on the switches.
Léonard Warzocha, Technical Director, and his deputy Boris Berson told us: “With the arrival of the network core we have been able to rationalise the management of all our sites. This lets us gain time and flexibility while guaranteeing our customers a robust and groundbreaking infrastructure.”
VIDELIO-Cap’Ciné is proud to have got this innovative configuration up and running for one of the biggest concentrations of servers and Avid stations in the world.
