Changes ahead for the Avid Learning Partner Program
Over the last few months, you will have noticed many changes at Avid, a steady cadence of new product versions, with solid new features that are really opening doors and changing workflows. Avid Education has been hard at work improving our products and programs too.
Recent improvements and new developments on the horizon includes:
Annual ALP Summits
New courses and certifications
Refreshed Media Composer curriculum design
Simplified ALP annual fees and ALP classifications
New ALP pricing structure
Streamlined ALP support processes
Expanded ALP benefits
Clearer documentation of benefits and requirements
To start the process of evolving the ALP program we need to implement a new legal agreement that keeps the best of our current contracts, but also adds more of the specificity that partners (and also our legal team) have been asking for. There will be some degree of legalese to the process, as you might expect, but it’s a necessary first step to the next stage of the Avid Learning Partner Program. To that end Avid Education gave notice at the start of October that as of January 1st 2017, all current ALP contracts will be terminated.
Starting in October and continuing through mid-November, ALPs will be getting new contracts and other documents, with a built-in transition period so their coverage and membership in the ALP family will not be impacted. We will be working individually with each of our ALPs (and collectively as well), making sure all are taken care of and all questions are answered.
To support this roll-out we have planned a number of live webinars, scheduled for the convenience of each geographic region. Please check the announcement email for more details, or contact your local Regional ALP Manager. If you have any specific questions that cannot wait for our next communication please contact your regional ALP manager and as always – thank you all for the great work that you do!
Certified Students now get automatic membership of the Avid Customer Association
As part of our intent to keep adding to the value and benefits of being ‘Avid Certified’ anyone who passes an Avid certification exam will be automatically enrolled as a member of the Avid Customer Association (ACA).
Launched in September 2013, the ACA is a customer run-and-led organization, designed to foster deep collaboration between Avid and the people dedicated to proactively shaping the future of the industry. As a member of the ACA your students will be joining an innovative and influential community of media industry professionals, enabling them to begin to build up their professional network, supporting their professional career development.
Check out more details on the ACA and let your students know!
Avid Education teams with Moviola to offer ACSR Pro Tools in Hollywood
Avid Education is extremely pleased to announce it has extended its Avid Learning Partner agreement with Moviola to enable them to deliver the ACSR Pro Tools System Support (PT400) course and certification in their education center in Los Angeles, CA.
What’s more the first offering of this course was scheduled around AES 2016, so any one attending the show could take the opportunity to take a class and become an Avid Certified Support Representative for Pro Tools before they headed home.
If you attended the ALP Summit in July you’ll have heard about an amazing new Education resource from Inside The Edit, the industry’s leading creative training website. Inside The Edit is the first eLearning company to concentrate solely on teaching the actual art form of editing and not the technical side of any software. Within just two years they already count international broadcasters such as Viacom, Vice Media & Discovery as their clients.
Inside The Edit is the most in depth editing course ever to appear online, with nearly 200 creative training tutorials that cover every aspect of pro level editing. Paddy Bird, one of the industry’s most prolific editors, spent three years developing the course and all of its unique content.
ITE also provide a complete package of training materials for every member with over 35 hours of raw footage from a prime time level television show, footage logs, interview transcripts, director’s notes as well as 2000 music tracks from Universal Production Music. These can be used copyright free by students for showreels, Vimeo and YouTube Channels to attract potential clients and employers.
As the need for blended learning grows, Inside The Edit is particularly suited for educational institutions. Creative tasks are set at the end of each tutorial which can easily integrated into any existing academic course structure thus relieving busy film and television lecturers of heavy workloads.
Many of the UK’s and US’s leading media universities and film schools will be rolling out Inside The Edit’s Creative Editing Course at the start of this academic year.
“At Ravensbourne we’ve been running undergraduate courses in editing for over a decade. We often wrestle with the question of how best to teach the craft of editing to large cohorts. We think Inside The Edit has the answer. ITE is a unique training resource.”
—Greg Loftin, Course leader of Post Production, Ravensbourne.
ALPs are being offered special pricing on multi-license purchases, with price per student as low as £25/$32 per year. Avid Education AMER Summit – July 2016
On Saturday July 23rd , the University of California, School of Cinema played host to almost 100 ACIs and Avid Learning Partner representatives for the Avid Education Summit of the Americas. Attendees came from a dozen U.S. states, as well as Mexico and Colombia, for a weekend full of networking, info sessions and workshops.
The day kicked off with Andy Cook and Bryan Castle, Jr. presenting Avid’s Global Education Strategy, sharing a preview and discussion of coming changes and improvements to the ALP Program, followed by Doug Price and Don Rohrer of Avid Sales discussing the hiring trends they are seeing with media enterprise customers among new grads and how Avid Learning Partners can better prepare their students to take advantage of these trends. (Two words: Media management)
In the afternoon, Avid course authors Frank Cook, Jenny Amaya and Bryan Castle, Jr. led ACI recertification sessions on Pro Tools, Sibelius and Media Composer, followed by brief presentations from special guests and strategic partners, Misha Tenenbaum, of EditStock.com, and Paddy Bird, of Inside the Edit. Each offer unique and complementary products that ALPs can leverage to further enrich their classroom training, and we were excited to hear that some ALPs had already been working with EditStock.com. Both offer attractive discounts for Avid Learning Partners, and free trials are available to ALPs for Inside the Edit. (Contact your regional ALP manager for more info)
No conference is complete without awards, and Musician’s Institute took home the prize for the ALP in attendance that had certified the most students, while Beth Sweeney, of University of California Los Angeles, was recognized as the ACI with the most certifications to her name, including multiple levels of User, Instructor and ACSR certifications on multiple products. Beth knows her stuff!
Day 1 came to an end with drinks and networking at the The Lab. On Sunday, attendees were treated to a very special film screening at the Los Angeles Film School, followed by a Q&A with award-winning editor, Kevin Tent. Kevin was everything attendees could hope for: down-to-earth, funny, open and engaging. Kevin even joined us for a final drink at closing reception. It was the highlight and a fitting conclusion to an outstanding weekend event.
We would like to give special thanks and recognition to Rich Hyland of USC School of Cinematic Arts, and Darren Millar of the Los Angeles Film School for your efforts and contributions. The day would not have been such a success without you!
Plans are already underway for next year’s Avid Education Summits. Will you join us next year in July? Is June or August better? What workshops and info sessions would you like to attend? East Coast or West Coast? Who would you LOVE to see as the keynote speaker?

Welcome New Avid Learning Partners!
Avid Education would like to extend a warm welcome to our new — or newly expanded — Avid Learning Partners in the Americas.
The EMEA Partner Summit took place back in July, hosted by the University of Salford. The summit was designed to provide a forum for EMEA ALPs and Avid Education to connect and network, as well as provide information and training to help ACI’s keep their Media Composer and Pro Tools certification status up to date. Many thanks to all who attended. We really appreciate the time you took out of your busy schedules to come along.
A huge well done to those who attended the 310|S6 course at SSR Manchester, and to Paul Maunder (SSR) and Gray Burnett (Academy of Sound and Engineering, SA) who passed the practical exam to become Avid Certified Instructors for S6!

Avid Education Breaks Barriers
The Asia Pacific region is a dynamic mix of culture, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more diverse region anywhere. Some countries are well established with Avid products, and the professional workflow solutions that accompany our suite of creative tools, but there are a few regions that are only recently moving toward Avid solutions.
In the last few months Avid Education has offered high-level training into two new regions – Myanmar and Vietnam. Myanmar’s Creative Media Institute is Avid’s first ever official Avid Learning Partner (ALP) in that country, and we kicked things off with Avid Certified Instructor training. The class did very well and are already starting to offer classes!
Vietnam Television (VTV), the leading network in the country, has a training facility in Ha Noi. Recently, we did two weeks of Media Composer and Pro Tools user certification training and workflow training. The classes were also great, and all students attained user certification! Discussions are underway with regard to VTV’s training center itself becoming an Avid Learning Partner, so this training will hopefully be the first of many!
Thank you for taking the time to read the Autumn 2016 education of the Avid Learning Partner Newsletter. We hope you found the information helpful to you as one of our Learning Partners.
