The following is the first in a series of blog posts from Bill Hadsell, Senior Product Manager for Avid, that will take a closer look at how graphics professionals can build strong on-air brands, with a specific focus on Avid Motion Graphics.
Broadcast graphics is just awesome – let’s get that out of the way first. Few mediums offer such instant exposure on such a large scale and with so much potential for creativity. One of our designers asked me the other day… “Is graphic design ‘ART’”? I don’t think so, but it sure comes close in its purest and most well executed form. That is not to say that the graphic artist cannot approach “artist”. They can and do when given the right refinement of skills, circumstances and tools. However, our rabid consumption of all forms of electronic media makes the content too fleeting to really be considered art. Art is slower and more permanent. To credit, broadcast graphics when well-done can rise above the maelstrom of noise that we are faced with every day and communicate in the most fundamental way accomplishing very specific objectives along the way. Graphical communication is everywhere and that is not changing. If anything, graphics are more of a common denominator for media creators than ever before.
Avid has long been known as the company that creates the digital audio and video technology that creative professionals use to make the most listened to, most watched and most loved media in the world. Just about every serious professional in the film or music industry uses Avid gear – enough said. A huge number of broadcasters rely on Avid gear every day as well. It’s only natural that we would offer an awesome broadcast graphics platform to assist those broadcasters in their quest to create terrific and meaningful media.
Introducing Avid Motion Graphics. Simply put, this is our platform for real-time graphical communication. I say platform because it’s so much more than just a pretty picture box. Yes, it can bring your vision to life. Yes, it’s easy, fast, modern, and powerful and all the other things you expect. Yes, it’s a lot of fun to work with and can create some seriously cool-stuff rendering it all in real-time. But beyond that, AMG is a platform made up of products that work together naturally and address professional workflows from integrated broadcast news to live events to post production. When integrated with other Avid broadcast solutions, well, the possibilities are limitless. Whether its broadcast news, sports, reality or post production, Avid is engaged and ready to help you make the most of your media.
I encourage everyone to take a tour of AMG and try it for yourself. You’ll get links to tutorial videos to help you get started. Spend 10 minutes with it and you will be amazed.
Please send me your thoughts, I’d be happy to discuss them with you and perhaps you can help us invent the future of graphics technology the way that you want to see it.
