Winners Rock the Music In Motion Contest

It takes more than talent to realize the dream of a music career. So earlier this year, Avid launched a contest to support the future of our industry. Music In Motion with Pro Tools | First gave up-and-coming artists a once-in-a-lifetime chance to work with a top music producer.

Contestants had to download Pro Tools | First, the free version of Pro Tools, and use it to record a demo. Five world-class music producers each selected a winner from hundreds of tracks submitted.

Take inspiration from this blog series. You’ll learn more about the amazing talent that was uncovered, catch videos of judges and winners working together, and hear the tracks they produced.

Fellow US judge Jesse “Corparal” Wilson is known for his range, working with artists like Justin Bieber, Usher, 50 Cent and Celine Dion, and producing music for hit TV series Empire and period drama film The Birth of a Nation. Dalton Boles, a student at the University of North Texas who’s also a talented golfer, showed Jesse he has what it takes in the music studio as well as on the golf course.

For US, songwriter and producer Jason Evigan, who has written and produced tracks for Demi Lovato, Maroon 5, Madonna and David Guetta, Villain Lighting had the winning sound. Whit Collar, better known by the pen name Villain Lighting, is an equal opportunist songwriter, producer, and remixer, based in Echo Park – Los Angeles. In addition to his main solo project, he has worked with members of St. Vincent, the band Bleachers, and Ryan West (Jay-Z, Rihanna), amongst others.

In Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa, Avid collaborated with Mix With The Masters, an online community and seminar series for engineers and producers. Aspiring artists competed in three categories: Songwriter, Bedroom Producer and Beat Maker.

Andrew Scheps, who has won Grammy Awards for his work with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Adele, and Ziggy Marley, selected Simon Carpentier as top of the Songwriter category.

Multiple Grammy Award-winner Tchad Blake, who’s jammed alongside The Black Keys, Sheryl Crow and Suzanne Vega, chose Aurelien Landy Gana as the Bedroom Producer winner. As a producer Landy Gana has recorded and produced records for artists including AxisOrca, Fanny Roz, Carola Ortiz/Minimal Hits and Fiction Parc.

Marek Pompetzki and his partners Paul NZA and Cecil Remmler have collaborated with artists like Aloe Blacc, Miley Cyrus and Kelly Rowland. They crowned Konstantin Reicheld winner of the Beat Maker category. Konstantin produced the rap EP Weggefährte for Shaheazy in 2013, and followed with his first solo project Prisma in 2014. He worked with singer Luisina in 2015, and is currently executive producer for Shaheazy’s forthcoming album due for release in 2017.
