Avid is sponsoring EditFest London, the American Cinema Editors’ annual UK celebration of the art and craft of editing. A whole host of the industry’s most acclaimed editors will be sharing their insights and experiences during the sold-out event at the iconic BFI Southbank in London on Saturday June 24.
The day gives attendees a unique opportunity to hear from an array of award-winning television, documentary and film editors in an intimate theater setting. As well as interactive Q&A sessions, visitors can network with the editors over lunch and an evening cocktail reception.
‘Small Screen, Big Picture’ Session
The event will open with the ‘Small Screen, Big Picture’ session hosted by journalist Adrian Pennington. Adrian will speak to Caroline Bleakley, Richard Cox, Beverley Mills, William Oswald and John Smith, ACE about working on the biggest shows to hit the small screen. From Happy Valley to Doctor Who, Sherlock to 24: Legacy, the session will give insights into the methods and understanding in editing the most gripping drama series and making unforgettable television.
‘The Art of Documentary Editing’ Session
Top-level documentary editors will also take to the stage for ‘The Art of Documentary Editing’ session, moderated by editor Eoin McDonagh. Chris King, ACE, Gordon Mason, ACE, Stephen Ellis, ACE, Zoe Davis and Mathilde Bonnefoy, ACE will share their experiences on working on documentaries that have captivated millions of viewers around the world. Between them, they’ve worked on renowned titles including Run Lola Run, Ronaldo, Jimi Hendrix: Hear My Train a Comin and Citizenfour.
‘From Dailies to Delivery’ Session
Moderated by ACE President, Stephen Rivki, ‘From Dailies to Delivery’ will take a more in depth look at the process behind editing features. Job ter Burg, ACE, Tony Cranstoun, ACE, Sian Fever, Sylvie Landra, ACE and Jake Roberts, ACE will share insights on the best techniques. The panelists will be putting their timelines under the microscope and explain how they use the powerful features in Avid Media Composer on blockbusters like Oscar-nominated crime drama, Hell or High Water.
Interview with Pietro Scalia, ACE
The event will close with an in-depth conversation with award-winning editor Pietro Scalia, ACE. Hosted by Carolyn Giardina from The Hollywood Reporter, Pietro will share his expertise on working on titles including Academy Award winning blockbuster epics, inclding Black Hawk Down and JFK, as well as Ridley Scott recent ventures Alien: Covenant and The Martian.
