This year at InfoComm 2018, Flux:: and Avid will be presenting a preview of the integration of the SPAT Revolution software with the Avid VENUE | S6L, creating a powerful and unique real-time multichannel immersive 3D-audio platform for the live, theatrical and installation sound applications.
Flux:: has developed an AAX DSP plug-in to run on S6L to control the SPAT Revolution processor, which takes advantage of the range of recent enhancements to the VENUE Snapshot and Events system for the theatrical world. This integration provides mixing engineers and sound designers the ability to control and automate audio sources in a multichannel surround or immersive 3D-audio environment, supporting virtually any type of loudspeaker configuration.
Flux:: SPAT – The immersive live sound revolution
SPAT Revolution is the most comprehensive and sophisticated real-time Immersive 3D Audio software engine ever designed. It is built around a modular object based concept, providing advanced positioning and automation of audio-sources in a multichannel surround or immersive 3D-audio environment, with the ability to specify and automate the spatialization parameters independently of the output format.
With an unlimited number of input/output channels, sources, and transcoders (limited only by the hardware and I/O specifications), support for a range of hardware and software inputs/outputs, and with network support for audio and for automation (using Open Sound Control), SPAT Revolution is designed to integrate with any kind of existing workflow, and to provide a flexible efficient and creatively inspiring working environment, preserving the emphasis on simplicity and ergonomics for the user.
SPAT Revolution offers a range of additional features to simplify the workflow integration, including OSC support, real-time tracking integration (BlackTrax), multiple 3D Vue and full Python script support. In addition to AAX DSP (and AAX Native), SPAT also supports AU and VST plug-in formats, making it easy to integrate with all major DAW software, QLab live show control, and other applications supporting these standard plug-in formats.
SPAT Revolution & VENUE | S6L – Communicating over Ethernet AVB
Although SPAT Revolution offers other I/O options, using Ethernet AVB for direct communication with S6L simplifies the direct routing of multichannel audio between the console and the workstation running SPAT—in particular under Mac OS X Core Audio that provides direct integration of AVB.

SPAT Revolution – Technology
SPAT Revolution is based on years of research by the Acoustic and Cognitive Spaces Team at the French audio research institute, IRCAM, and on the profound product innovation experience from French pro-audio software producer, Flux::, Sound and Picture Development.
SPAT Revolution is a stand-alone object based 3D-Audio mixing engine that provides acoustics simulation with multiple rooms and localization for surround and multi-channel, and is available for Windows and Mac OS X supporting ASIO/Core Audio. SPAT Revolution supports unlimited number of input/output channels, sources and transcoders, and is limited only by the hardware and I/O specifications.
It supports a wide range of input stream formats such as Channel Based, High Order Ambisonic up to 7° order, Binaural, Transaural, MS, A-Format, B-Format, UHJ, and Eigenmike. Its unlimited number of outputs are compatible with any kind of speaker arrangement, including Stereo, 5.1, Cube, Auro 3D, DTS, Atmos, NHK 22.2, as well as any custom speaker system setup.
